Morocco posts highest tourism numbers in four decades
[February 2008]:
Record breaking tourism numbers have been released by the Moroccan government. A 13% increase in arrivals has been noted plus an indicated 12% jump in tourism revenues to 59 billion dirhams.
"Tourism has become the chief source of investments and job creation in the Kingdom, as well as a driving force for sustainable development, contributing to 8% of the country's gross domestic product" says Tourism and Crafts Minister, Mohamed Boussaid.
These figure are a good sign that His Majesty King Mohammed VI's Plan Azur will be successful in reaching its goal of 10 million tourists by the year 2010. The ministry has also stated an intention to draw up a tourism management plan for 2010 to 2020 which will focus on maintaining quality in the tourism services.
